New Offering • RevolutionaryBirthworker Circles

Dearest Birthworker Community,

Happy True Blue Supermoon tonight! No matter where you are in the world reading this, we can all look up at our shared sky in awe this evening. Time to get witchy. I am so excited to share our newest offering with you! Hands down, the best part of my job is connecting with fellow birthworkers. (Snuggling babies is a close second.) Whether we sit in circle on one of our trips, have Zoom calls, or connect at a birth, the shared vision and collective passion to heal and elevate maternal health is always present.

On our trips, when we come together as a global community of birth nerds, we have revolutionary conversations—conversations that leave me deeply inspired with my cup overflowing, and a renewed determination to enhance care for mothers and families everywhere.

It is from this magic that Wombs of the World is now offering Revolutionary Birthworker Circles. The concept is simple yet powerful: a small group of us will gather online six times over three months to deepen our practices, learn from each other, and grow as a community.

What Will the Circles Be About?

  1. The Anthropology of the MotherTo truly understand our role as birthworkers, we must zoom out and examine the roots of our work. This session delves into the deep, historical origins of motherhood and childbirth, helping us to deconstruct outdated paradigms and rebuild anew. By exploring how our work connects to larger societal shifts, we can better understand our place in the ongoing struggle for better care and empowerment.

  2. Birth as a Global Social Justice IssueThis session addresses global inequalities in maternal health, equipping us with the knowledge to be culturally aware and to advocate for safe and equitable care in our practices. We’ll explore the intersection of birthwork and social justice. Birthwork is

undoubtedly political, and I want you to be confident agents of change.

  3. Navigating Birthwork as a BusinessIn this session, we’ll cover the essential tools for sustaining and growing your birthwork practice. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to expand, we’ll dive into practical strategies for marketing your services, finding clients, and managing the financial aspects of your business.

  4. Full Spectrum - Supporting Clients Through GriefThis topic is particularly close to my heart, as it aligns with my field of study as a perinatal social worker. Birthwork often involves walking alongside families through loss and grief, and it’s crucial that we know how to provide compassionate care during these times. Drawing from my professional experiences and insights gathered from cultures around the world, I hope to equip you with the tools and knowledge needed to support grieving families effectively.

  5. Creating Ceremonies and RitualsAn essential part of our Wombs of the World trips revolves around ceremony. However, it’s important to approach these practices with cultural sensitivity. In this session, we’ll discuss how you can create ceremonies that resonate with you and your clients, whether to honor their journey into parenthood, help them process birth trauma, or acknowledge a loss. These rituals will be designed to reflect your own cultural background and the unique needs of your clients, without appropriating traditions that are not your own.

  6. Bridging Modern Medicine and Traditional Birth PracticesThis session embodies the essence of Wombs of the World: integrating cutting-edge, ancient technology—us, the doulas, the midwives, the traditional birth attendants. We are the keepers of sacred knowledge, and in this session, we’ll explore how to blend traditional wisdom with modern medical practices. Together, we’ll discuss how to honor and preserve these ancient practices while sharing and expanding upon them within our communities.
