A Transformational Opportunity for Maternal Health
For years, Wombs of the World has welcomed doulas and medical professionals into meaningful exchange with our partner clinics in Tanzania.

As this work has grown, the Clinical Immersion Program has evolved into a core initiative of the Wombs of the World Foundation.

This transition allows the program to more directly support maternal and newborn health initiatives, training, and equipment within the communities we serve.

All Clinical Immersion placements are now managed through the Wombs of the World Foundation.

Who Should Apply?
We are seeking passionate maternal health professionals who want to engage in a meaningful cross-cultural exchange while supporting Tanzanian communities with their expertise.

There are many global health volunteer opportunities.
Very few are built on long-term relationship, deep cultural respect, and true professional exchange.

For over seven years, Wombs of the World has worked alongside maternity clinics in northern Tanzania, building trusted partnerships rooted in collaboration, humility, and shared commitment to improving outcomes for mothers and babies.
Our Clinical Immersion Program was created in response to what our partner clinics have asked for most: Meaningful exchange. Ongoing mentorship. Real connection.

This is not a drop-in volunteer experience.
It is an invitation into a global network of maternal health professionals working together to strengthen care across borders.
What makes this program unique:
Established Relationships Since 2018
Our clinical partnerships are long-standing and deeply trusted. Participants step into environments where collaboration is welcomed and impactful.

A True Two-Way Exchange
Share your expertise while learning from skilled midwives, nurses, and physicians whose knowledge and resilience offer invaluable perspective.

Sustainable, Not Short-Term
Your presence contributes to ongoing training, mentorship, and resource-building that extends far beyond your time on the ground.

Professionally Grounded + Personally Transformative
Spend several weeks immersed in meaningful clinical environments while experiencing the culture, landscape, and community of northern Tanzania.

A Program with Purpose
Participants also have the opportunity to support tangible maternal health initiatives through fundraising, equipment sponsorship, and long-term partnership building.
Your Role in the Exchange:
Participants in the Clinical Immersion Program join as collaborators, not observers and not short-term volunteers.
You will be welcomed into long-standing clinical partnerships where your presence supports ongoing mentorship, knowledge exchange, and relationship-building across cultures.

Depending on your background and the needs of our partner clinics, your time may include:
-
Collaborating alongside local maternity staff in busy clinical environments
-
Sharing skills and participating in case-based learning and discussion
-
Supporting trainings, mentorship, or education sessions
-
Contributing to respectful, evidence-based maternal and newborn care initiatives
-
Identifying meaningful ways to support clinics through resources or fundraising
-
Engaging with the broader community through cultural exchange and relationship-building
-
Each placement is shaped in conversation with you and with our clinical partners to ensure alignment, respect, and meaningful contribution.

This program is best suited to professionals who are adaptable, humble, and committed to collaborative global health work.

A Program Rooted in Impact
The Clinical Immersion Program is now housed exclusively under the Wombs of the World Foundation, allowing each placement to directly support maternal and newborn health initiatives in Tanzania.

Program contribution:
$5,000 for a three-week minimum stay
+$1,500 for each additional week

This contribution covers housing, local transportation, program coordination, and on-the-ground support. Any remaining funds are reinvested directly into maternal health programming, clinic support, and community initiatives.

Participants are also strongly encouraged to match their program contribution by raising an additional $5,000 or more in tax-deductible donations to the Foundation.

These funds help ensure that while you are learning and contributing on the ground, you are also directly supporting the clinics, staff, and mothers you will come to know during your time in Tanzania.
Wombs of the World Foundation provides a fundraising toolkit and guidance to make this both achievable and meaningful.
This model ensures that every participant’s presence results in tangible, lasting impact.
