Dearest Wombs of the World Community,
Each newsletter seems to begin the same way—with a heaviness in my heart as I reflect on the state of the world. So many of us in birthwork are natural empaths, and the weight of global chaos can press in on our ability to show up fully in the work we do. How do we, as birthworkers, continue to navigate and hold space for others amidst so much collective trauma?
I have some thoughts on that, but first, I need to share some very exciting updates with you.

🌕 Revolutionary Birthworker Circles: A Space for Transformation and Community✨ |
These online circles are a new offering! We started in September and we are officially half way through. After each session my heart wants to explode with gratitude. So far we have explored The Anthropology of the Mother, Birthwork as Social Justice Work, and The Business of Birthwork. Each topic builds on the previous, and the women joining from around the world are A M A Z I N G! These circles are fueling me right now. Reminding me of our purpose and power. I'm launching two more circles in 2025, with limited spots in each. Our Thursday and Sunday Circles will be small, intimate groups of nine birthworkers, offering a space that is conversational, educational, and deeply transformative.
My goal is for you to walk away refueled, ready to support more mamas, and to remember that gentleness is its own form of revolution.
Because let’s be real—this world is not gentle. Hurricane Helene recently devastated my home region of Western North Carolina, the place where I first became a doula, where Wombs of the World was born, and where my family and closest friends live. My dad lost his home, and his business was destroyed. Appalachia always felt like a safe haven—where people buy land and build community with the notion that it’s protected from climate disasters. And yet, we’re witnessing a long road to recovery and rebuilding, and it makes me feel the weight of the world in a new way...
But when I watch the community come together and see parents navigating these times while caring for their children, I remember: we are here on this planet for such a short time, and we get to feel all of it. The human experience is powerful. We get to feel it all. Even when it hurts. Even when we just want to crawl into a hole and hide from the despair. We keep going. Like labor. We can do it because we are doing it. We find layers of resilience and strength we didn't know we had in us.
So, how do we as empaths continue to hold space amidst the world’s heaviness? We begin by remembering that we don’t have to carry it alone. Empathy is a superpower, a gift, and it can also be a shield. You can create your own boundaries. You can witness deeply and care fiercely without losing yourself in it. Let your empathy guide you, but hold it close as a reminder that you’re here to bear witness, not to be overtaken. Please rest. Please nurture yourselves. Please stay hydrated and enjoy the fall leaves, and, most importantly- vote.
Remember, this is a movement—a community of people working together to create something better. We’re in this for the long game, and the strength we need is right here.
Thank you for being here and for continuing to do the work.
I’m grateful to be walking this path alongside you.
With love and gratitude, Charlotte BrielleExecutive Director of Wombs of the World |
